Comprehensive Evaluations (including independent educational evaluations):
Comprehensive evaluations focus on specific cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral factors that inform how a child performs in school and at home. Targeted evaluations provide information about what accommodations or specially designed instruction may be necessary for a child to make academic, social, emotional, and behavioral progress. Evaluations are available for students ranging as young as preschool and culminating in high school and college. Families utilizing comprehensive evaluations have used them to support receiving additional support from school IEP teams, independent school placement, and college disability access. These evaluations include independent evaluations for school districts and evaluations for students with learning disabilities.
Your comprehensive evaluation journey starts with a phone intake session where we discuss what challenges you may be encountering with your child, including home and school behaviors or roadblocks. Based on this discussion, we will determine if parent coaching, observations, testing, or other services are appropriate. Should you select to complete an evaluation, the next step is scheduling testing times, completing background information paperwork, and completing rating scales to provide a full picture of your child's functioning. The testing sessions last 3 to 6 hours in length and can be broken into several sessions if necessary. Specific tests are selected based on your referral concern and serve to directly answer questions about your child's cognition, social emotional profile, problem solving abilities, attentional profile, and/or social profile.
After the evaluation has been completed, we will meet for a feedback session to discuss results of the testing and diagnostic impressions. This meeting will be followed by a written report, which will include analysis of testing results and recommendations. This meeting is typically held with caregivers, but can also include the child, or a child feedback session can be scheduled apart from the feedback session. I am also happy to meet with school based teams to go over findings and recommendations.
Note that these evaluations are not covered by insurance. Cost for these evaluations is $2000 for a comprehensive psychological evaluation, and $1000 for academic evaluation. These prices are similar to those of other agencies.
